Gift Certificate Coupons

I had an idea for redeeming gift certificates on the web. We could set
up a coupon for each gift certificate, using the invoice number as the
coupon code. Then, they just enter the invoice/reference number in the
coupon code box and can use the certificate.

I know this wouldn't be particularly time-efficient with a large number
of gift certificates, but are there any other technical problems I'm
missing with this idea on a small scale?

Also, to slim down the time involved, can a coupon be copied and the
modified slightly? (ie, just change the amount and reference code)?

Thanks!

It would work but you'd also need to make sure that the shopper does not
attempt to reuse the coupon that is working as a gift certificate. The next
release of ShopSite Pro (v7.1 coming very soon) will directly support gift
certificates. The next release also has a copy coupon feature so the
merchant can quickly create similar coupons.

So what IS the release date on v 7.1?

Having those gift certificates available for the holiday shopping system would
be EXCELLENT!
