Customer Registration some statistics :-)

Hi all,
Hi Jim,
when discussing the cr feature earlier this month, Jim was asking how many
people register in "real life" using the cr feature when the registration is
optional.
I have switched on the cr feature some time ago and have compiled some data
for everybody who might be interested.
First my setup:
-> Customer registration is optional
-> In the shopping cart the customer reads (in german): "New here? You can
setup a customer account here (optional)"
-> In the cr screen where the customer inputs his registration data, it
reads "[ ] YES, I want to save my payment information (works currently only
with COD and credit cards)". We use other payment methods like bank draft in
Germany, setup as custom payment methods in shopsite, so it is important to
explain to the customer that those payment data do not save in the profile.
I have crosschecked the period of 100 orders and here are the results (boy
what a clicking work, if you select 20 customers in the CR screen and click
"Edit" only the first one displays, so I had to do them one by one):
- out of those 100 orders, 20 customer have registered using the cr feature,
18 customers from Germany, 1 from France, 1 from Denmark (for comparison: we
sell 80% to Germany and 20% to other EU countries, the US and Australia)
- 1 of the 20 registered customers did NOT place an order
- out of those 20 people registering 16 choose do NOT save their payment
information: 8 of those were paying with credit card, 8 were paying by bank
draft.
- 4 people choose their payment information: 1 was the person who do not
order, 1 person was using credit card, 1 person COD and the last person paid
by bank draft, e.g. the payment information did not save in the profile.
Bottomline for me is: CR as such is already a known and accepted commodity
for about 1/5 of internet users in Germany, it should not be set to
mandatory in shopsite when using it. ALL payment methods must save in the
customer profile in the future.
Best regards,
Niko
