decimal or fractional units

I am beginning to sell fabric (as in cut yardage). Is there a way to
allow shoppers to purchase less than 1 unit (for example, less than 1
yard)? The shopping cart does not seem to recognize decimal values or
fractions.

Any suggestions?

Decimal and fractional units are not supported directly.

If you have a ShopSite Pro level store you can use order option pricing
to allow shoppers to order partial units. You would create pulldowns
for the partial sale unit and have the price adjusted for that unit.
For example you could have one pulldown with the full unit amounts and a
second for the partial unit
Full yard amount Partial Yard amount
1 yard 1/8 yard;*.125
2 yards;*2 1/4 yard;*.25
3 yards;*3 1/3 yard;*.33
etc

or you could have one pulldown with mixed full and partial units.

1 yard
1 1/8 yards; *1.125
1 1/4 yards; *1.25
1 1/3 yards; *1.33
.. . .
2 yards; *2
2 1/8 yards; *2.125
etc.

Using either method the shopper would select a quantity of 1 and the
options would be used to compute the actual cost of the order.
