Maximum order amount?

Postby Brandon Eley » Wed Mar 31, 2004 3:05 pm

We are getting a LOT (hundreds per day) of attempted fraudulent
transactions and our ISP is at a loss. We are banning entire class C and
B IP blocks to no avail. They just keep hopping to completely different
ISP's and start again in literally minutes.

Fortunately NONE of the transactions have been approved... we require an
AVS match and all they have is the card numbers. I think they may be
randomly generated. Anyway...

Is there anyway to set a MAXIMUM order amount in ShopSite? I know you
can set a minimum... we sell shoes, so the max amount anyone would
reaslistically order is about $500 for several pair. All of the
fraudulent orders are $1000 and up.

If these orders start getting through we'll be hit with per-transaction
authorization charges from our merchant account, and at $0.25 each
that's a lot of money considering the number of attempts.

Any help would be appreciated...

Most of the IP addresses are from Nigeria and western Africa but the
shipping addresses are all in the US. Total Merchant Services (Auth.net
reseller) seems to believe that the actual perpetraters are in the US
routing traffic through african ISP's.

They started several weeks ago... maybe a month... but it was just
brought to our attention by TMS last week. None of the transactions have
been approved. The only way I can see them is to go to the Authorize.net
web interface and search for declined transactions.

Interesting, though it's sucking up my bandwidth... that's the only
downside right now as long as they're not getting through. I'm afraid
they might wise up sooner or later and get some through though.
