V7.0.3 database upload issue

PostPosted: Tue Feb 10, 2004 2:12 am

We've been using db upload for years now. About 10 days ago we upgraded to v
7.0.3 and tonight for the first time we uploaded a few new products to our
current total of around 2600.
The products would not display on the designated page ("In These Pages")
after db upload. We had to go into Products>Power Edit>In These Pages, and
check off the relevant page manually before it would display.
We thought it may be the new pagination "page" default of zero, but it is
disabled (under Publish). Perhaps this is the problem but we've played with
it a bit without success. As a side note how does one turn on Pagination.
The help link on the Publish page links to "New Features in shopsite 7.0"
without telling you how to actually turn it on.
Please comment, this is a critical issue for us. We tried a few different
things but nothing appears to work but perhaps it's something obvious.

Richard,

On the Edit Page layout screen there is a field at the bottom of the
screen called Pagination. Enter the number of products you want
displayed on the page in that field. On the Utilities > Publish page
you can set the maximum number of pages to generate. Each page will
have the number of product defined in the Pagination section of the Edit
Page Layout screen. If there are more product than will fit on the
maximum number of pages defined the last page will have all remaining
products. For example if you have 101 product and assign 10 per page
and have a maximum of 10 pages the final page would have 11 products.
If you are using custom templates you include the [-- PrevNext --] tag
where you want the links to the various pages to be placed.

On the upload issue. What version version did you upgrade from? Did
you perhaps save the file from Excel and have quotes put in the file
that change page or product names?

Hi Jim,
Thanks for the responses
Upload Issue - We upgraded from one of the latest Version 6's. I can't
remember exactly which release of 6 it was but I can find out from our ISP.
I guess we've been doing DB upload for so long that we did check for the
quotes issue as a potential problem but this particular DB is in Access. We
also went into the back office to compare the relevant products field "In
these Pages" and compared it to the "Name" value in the page. They are
identical as they are built from the same source..
I guess we could back up the DB and do a Regenerate. Other than that we are
stumped. Any other suggestions please

Re Pagination - we have built our own pagination system and I guess we were
only messing with it to see if it was related to our upload issue. To test
we took an existing random page (with only one product on it already) and
changed it from 0 to 30 (and other amounts). We then went into
Utilities>Publish but the max. number of pages is still grayed out (with 10
as the default).
a) Is pagination enabled only when more products are assigned to the page
(over and above the value set for the actual page?). b) Also more important,
if Max number of pages on the publish page is disabled we trust that
shopsite will work as in prior versions, (V6.x and below)?
c) We don't see it listed under page upload fields but surely Pagination
needs to be a defined DB upload field?

Thank you very much for the responses Jim

Richard

Please contact your hosting provider for help on the upload issue. If
they need further assistance they can contact ShopSite support directly.

If the option to set the max number of pages to generate is grayed out
then your store has been upgraded to version 7 but the 7.0 features are
not enabled. There may be a charge for upgrading from one version to
another. You should contact your hosting provider (YourHost?) to have
the 7.0 features enabled.

Publish should work the same as in 6.x with the grayed out field because
it will just be ignored.

The upload field for Pagination is "Number Products". I have contacted
the documentation department to make sure they get it added to the help.

Jim,
A) DB Upload - we somehow fixed it. For the record and for others.
1) We backed up our DB
2) We did an entire regeneration - finished normally.
3) To test further (prior to adding new products/pages) we deleted from the
back office a very old Product and its relevant Page (it could not possibly
be corrupted)
4) We uploaded via DB upload the relevant DB with that old product (pages
first, then products) and noted all results reports (all as expected)
5) The product was added to the page correctly.
6) We then added new products/pages and as expected these also were OK.
I suspect that 2) did the trick....

B) Pagination
Yes you are correct, YourHost did upgrade us but did not turn on the
features. My question is; once 7.x features are enabled, how do we ignore
pagination? If the default is 0 (which it looks like it is) for each page
will this retain our current layout?
Thanks
Richard

Richard,
Glad you got the upload working. Normally you should upload products
first and then pages. The pages contain the links to the products that
are assigned so if the product isn't there when the pages are uploaded
it may not be found during the upload linking phase.

Pagination:
If the number of products per page is set to 0 then the regular layout
will be maintained and all products assigned to the page will be
included when the page is generated.
