Using ShopSite as a POS in-store...

We have both a brick and mortar store and a web store using ShopSite Pro
version 6.3. We sell from the same inventory. This is a problem for us now
because for every in-store purchase, we must manually go into ShopSite and
update our inventory.

Ideally, we would like to use our web site (and ShopSite) as our in-store
POS (point of sale) system. That way as a sale takes place in-store, the
inventory would be changed dynamically. However, we can not complete the
transaction on-line using the customer's credit card that is standing in
front of us (per our credit card services company). We need to use the
credit card machine in our store.

So the dilemma is that we want to set up an alternate purchasing method
within ShopSite that would allow us to build an order on-line, but allow us
to charge our in-store customers off-line. Using either the Purchase Order
option or the Generic Payment Option leaves us open to nuisance purchases by
our on-line customers that choose these options. I would like to be able to
require a password or specific code to be entered if we (in-store employees)
are completing and order in-store.

So the big question is this: is there a way for me to set this up using the
custom check out fields? Could I write some custom HTML to look at the
"paytype" parameter, and when either Purchase Order or Generic Payment Type
was selected, I could force an entry in a Custom Field that would require a
match to a code or password that only we would know? They way the ShopSite
back office set-up screens look like right now, if I required this code or
password, it would be required for all transactions.

Any suggestions? Thanks!
