Order Manager Email Followup/Marketing Module

Below is a recent post on the Stone Edge User's Forum (Order Manager -->
General Questions) that I think is a great idea. The poster and I are
looking for folks to share the development costs with. Not sure what the
costs would be at this point. If you haven't visited Barney's new User's
Forum, check it out. It very user friendly.
Here is the post:
Alright. I'm glad that none of my competitors use stoneedge software. Here
is why:
Over the past months I have been trying to figure out a way to turn my
customers into loyal return customers. I want to be able to build
relationships with thousands of customers and offer them targeted offers
etc. though a bulk email software. the email offers each customer received
would be based on products they purchased in the past. I had started
developing a proprietary system and ran into a few glitches... OK, a lot of
glitches. At some point, it hit me how blind I was. The answer was sitting
right under my nose:
Email Marketing Power built right into the OM.
The program is already set up to send bulk email based on templates and all
of the data is right there in the program. the OM would need to have a new
module built in: "email marketing module."
Here is how it would work. You would go to the email marketing area in the
maintenance menu. It would bring up a screen where you could filter past
customers based on a number of criteria including order date, order volume,
skus purchased, shipping method, etc. Then it would return your results,
filter out the duplicate email addresses, and show you the last time they
recieved an email from you. You would be able to select a template, tweak
the template to say exactly what you want (I hope) and then send the email
to all of your customers. The email could include all kinds of information
from the order.
The prospects of something like this are just amazing. We would have the
marketing power and targeted pinpoint offers that only the Amazon.com's can
do right now.
Barney and the crew had already thought of something like this, but had put
it on the backburner for a little while until they could find some merchants
to pay for development. For those of you that have a decent size customer
database, this would be an amazing tool. Basically, we could get it done and
pay for the development ourselves. That's not going to happen any time soon,
unfortunately. I'd like to know if any merchants are interested in pitching
in $50-$100 to help pay the development costs. My company can't pay for it
alone, but if we could all pool our resources it would be a small investment
for everyone and then we could all benefit from the tool.
I think it would pay for iteself in the first month...maybe even the first
day.
