Some Customers Do not Read

Postby Larry Bohen » Sun Jan 26, 2003 8:51 am

We have 1000s of audiobooks for sale at our ShopSite SC Pro 6.2 Web store
(www.audiobooksonline.com). Most audiobook titles come in two formats
(cassette and compact disc) and some come in a third (MP3 CD). Each of the
7300+ audiobook products has a [Purchase Audio Book] button AND an audiobook
CAN NOT be purchased (click on the [Purchase Audio Book] button) without a
notice that it is on CASSETTE, COMPACT DISC or MP3 CD.

When we use Stoneedge's Order Manager to send email shipping notices, we
manually insert in the email what the format is (CASSETTE, COMPACT DISC or
MP3 CD).

Unfortunately, some customers don't read the notices of the audiobook's
format (CASSETTE, COMPACT DISC or MP3 CD) and end up receiving a format they
can't listen to.

In our MS Access databased (on my desktop PC) of our 7300+ products) each of
these products has a FORMAT field entry of CASSETTE, COMPACT DISC or MP3 CD.
Currently the FORMAT field is not uploaded to our ShopSite store. I'd like
to include the product's FORMAT (CASSETTE, COMPACT DISC or MP3 CD) in the
Shopping Cart screen, the Shipping Screen AND the automatic order
confirmation email. Can I do this? How?

Larry,

Why don't you use ShopSite's options? Each title will have a
pull down menu of the various format options and corresponding
prices just as my size options are listed at
http://www.switchhits.com/scroll_mocha_ ... cover.html. I
would put as your first option Select Option.

I have an Order Manager email template called "Select Option"
which explains that we can't process their order until they
choose an option...CD, Cassette, MP3, etc.

With Order Manager, you won't need to manually insert the format
or anything else. That's the beauty of Order Manager is that you
can customize your email templates to put in anything you
want...AUTOMATICALLY. The manual thing is a thing of the past
century.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Regarding using ShopSite options, in that many audiobook titles are
published by more than one publisher and most abridged versions are narrated
by different actors than the unabridged versions, I would be trying to
combine, on one page, a confusing mixture of information. Having the option
list, one of which must be selected before the order gets processed would I
expect, have the option stated as part of the automatic email order
confirmation (correct?), however, trying to mix different publisher and
narrators on the same page would be confusing.

Regarding OM tags, how do I add a custom tag that would pickup the FORMAT
field (from my MS Access product database) in the email template?

Larry,

With respect to all the different versions, I think those could
be separate products. However, if a certain version comes in 3
formats, on your Order Options pull down menu, I would suggest:

Please Select Format
CS-Cassette $12.50
CD-CD $17.50;5
MP-MP3 $22.50;10

When you import into Order Manager, (I hope you're using Product
Manager as well), the format field is actually the Option Field
which you can insert into you email template. Here is a sample
of one of my many email templates automated but customized for
various situations. My size options below would be your Audio
Formats and you can make your letter say anything with respect to
the Formats:

Hi Patricia,

Thank you for your order. To give you the speediest
service possible, your in stock items have been shipped.
You also selected made to order items which will be
arriving in a separate package(s).

Since you are receiving multiple shipments, you may
see multiple Switch Hits charges on your credit card
statement. However, the total of these charges will
never exceed your original order total of $101.90.

We hope you had a good experience at Switch Hits
and we look forward to serving you again.
