Lefty link spacing

I have pages setup on the Lefty theme. I am using button images in lieu of
the default text printout for the menu links on the left. Is there anyway to
spec the spacing between lines so that my buttons will tighten up next to
each other? As is there is a large space between them.

I see in the source code that there is "<br clear="all">" at the end of each
cell that is probably the culprit. I see this in the template page as well
although I am afraid to touch the code in there at this point.
