Gift certificates issues?

Postby L. Land » Wed Nov 06, 2002 9:30 am

I was hoping to get some feedback from those of you selling gift
certificates. We are launching a site that sells gift certificates for local
merchants. The certifcates will be redeemed at the merchant's place of
business. We will capture and fulfill the orders and pass the info on to the
merchants. We have determined that e-mail gift certificates are too
problematic at this time so we will dump orders to a db and print
certificates. We are using the associate feature to track each merchants
gift certificates.

Wish List:
Easily send an e-mail to the gift certificate recipient letting them know
that John Doe has purchased a gift certificate for you and should arrive by
mail shortly... provided they have the e-mail address.

Any issues or problems that you may have encountered or any suggestions
would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a great use for the Order API in ShopSite Pro. You just have
to determine what field in the cart or the checkout screen you can use
to collect the second email address. In the next release of ShopSite
that won't be an issue because Pro users will be able to add their own
form fields to the checkout screen.

Version 6.2.

P.S. I know what you are really asking, but I don't know an exact date,
sorry. At least within the month (for UNIX/Linux OS's), I would imagine.

We have been selling gift certificates (redeemable for audiobooks) from our
Web store at (www.audiobooksonline.com). Our preference is to send an email
GC to the recipient with a CC: to the customer. We created an email template
in MS Outlook that we just fill in with the custom info (recipient, special
message, GC number...). The email template contains generic information such
as who we are, how to redeem the GC, and what to do if they order more or
less than the GC amount... This has worked well.

In cases where the recipient doesn't have an email address, we send a
hardcopy to the recipient.

If you have Stoneedge's Order Manager, you could create an email template
with generic information and just fill it in with any custom info.
