Affiliate program and statistics question

I saw in another post that the affiliate program links simply start a
shopping basket for the potential customers, which will expire after a
certain amount of time if they don't place an order.

Since this information is being logged somewhere, would it be possible to
track statistics on how many people put items in their shopping carts and
leave without checking out? This could be very valuable information.

If the information is in log files or data files on the server, where can I
get it? I would be more than happy to try to write a small script to pull
data out and organize it.

Any help would be appreciated...

P.S. if this isn't possible, could you please add it to your feature
enhancements list for the statistics and reports section?
