IMHO, this needs some improvement, unless I'm completely missing something.

When an item is out of stock and a customer "clicks add to cart", the
shopping
cart summary does indeed display the error message "This item is out of
stock."
However, it ALSO adds the item to the cart anyway, requiring the shopper to
be smart enough to remove the item from the cart.

Does this seem logical?

I love shopsite, and I understand the limitations of having static page
generation,
but maybe a mix of static and dynamic content would produce a more flexible
product.

In your (humble) opinion, what should happen if you are using the quantity box
on your store pages and a shopper wants to buy 10 of an item but there are only
5 available? Currently what will happen is that all 10 are added to the cart,
and a warning is displayed that only 5 are available, and then they can't
checkout unless they change the quantity of that item down to 5. Is this
correct, or should the amount automatically be decremented to 5 when they try
to put 10 in the cart or should they just not be allowed to put it in the cart
period if all of it is not available? Any other opinions?

I think there should be an option to let customers order out-of-stock items
and let
them know their order may be delayed, or not to let them order any quantity
above
what's in stock.

And, if you don't let them order out-of-stock items, automatically adjust the
quantity in the basket. If the customer has to adjust the quantity, they may
not
understand what needs to be done.
