truncated freeform text on orders download

Our orders download text file is truncating the freeform text box on my line
items. That is when I download it, it is suppressing carriage returns and
linebreaks entered by the users. Result is customer is putting linebreaks
and we can't see them. Properly interpretting the customers instructions
often depends on being able to see those omitted characters. Is there any
way of dealing with this? Is there any hope of a future upgrade dealing
with this? Even representing CR's and LF's as |n| would be nice.

Okay, do you have any ideas how I can hack our cgi files. Or a patch I can
aquire and apply?

If I view the order in shopsite backoffice, it outputs the line break - but
because it is html it appears as a space. Viewing the source reveals its
true form. The email confirmation displays the linebreak properly. (it is
a pure text email) So it exists in the data that is stored. The order
downloader is eliminating it though.

Our customers are saying, output my purchase looking like this:

My Name

[Image]

My Slogan


And all we see is one line of text but what is meant is much different.
