I have never been with Comcation but, take my advice on this... Their
customer service representatives sound very scary to me. I called once to
find out the cost of their modules and instead of prices, I got a bunch of
repetitive sales pitches about hosting. Comcation veers away from licensing
their software to other Internet Service Providers. To me that is taking a
very big risk on a $10,000.00 investment into their modules. Imagine if
their server's all blew up and they had to leave the hosting business
altogether! Where would you go then?
Safeguard your ability to remain mobile when it comes to ShopSite
technology... Especially these days! Comcation will soon be confronted with
competitors who sell different variations of their same features but, as
inexpensive as the dozens of modules currently available for Miva Merchant
software. Plus, you will be able to transfer those features to any ISP that
supports ShopSite technology.
In my opinion, ShopSite is about to go very big in the near future! There
will be a ton of Internet Service Providers that support Shopsite and it's
modules! Why exclude yourself from those that will be able to access
ShopSite modules as easily as accessing Miva Merchant modules?
Be patient, and go with Lexiconn Internet Services! They offer a resellers
program that will probably help them grow into the largest applications
hosting provider for ShopSite merchants. Lexiconn is far more on top of
their game than ANY ShopSite ISP I have gone with before! And since 1997 I
have gone through Yourhost.com, Verio, HostPro, and Netcom/MindSpring.
Nothing beats Lexiconn's pricing and professional customer service.
My clients sell between 600 and 10,000 distinct products per company while I
have supplied them ShopSite since 1998. ShopSite has never let me down in
such a way that could not be quickly rigged somehow. ShopSite 6.XX has added
features that make it more robust than Miva.
As a word of advice, "impulse" shoppers do not want to spend their time
registering to purchase something. If saving credit card information on file
is that important to your customers, just set ShopSite up to request an
optional password using the "comments box" in the checkout form. If the
customer's name matches the correct password they enter, then reference the
previous credit card number within your accounting system. Most web browsers
already offer the ability to memorize form fields anyway.
My rule of thumb is to stick with as few proprietary disadvantages as
possible while achieving complete ownership of your online storefront.
