UPS Shipping/Default Ship Via

With UPS shipping enabled, one of the UPS options is always listed first in
the shipping options list and hence becomes the default.
We need to use a non-UPS shipping method (Ship for FREE by Mail/Ground) as
the default. We were informed this isn't possible in the current program
with UPS shipping enabled. We've already submitted an enhancement request
with Shopsite, but does anybody have any better news for us currently--any
tricks or a workaround? I put a lot of time into entering weights and
configuring everything, so I'd hate to see us have to turn off UPS shipping.
BUT, our customers who are used to Free Shipping will accuse us of
"trickery" if a shipping method with a cost involved is selected as the
default--and my bosses won't let the site go live like that.
Please help. The site is at 66.70.210.253 for anyone who wants to see what
