how to get Homesite and Dreamweaver to ignore Smart Tags ?

Anyone know how to get Homesite (v5) and/or Dreamweaver (v4)
to ignore Smart Tags esp. <recname> and <curdb>.

When I try and either format the code or check for HTML errors
problems arise.

In HomeSite the tag <recname> throws out the entire
<table> recognition process - and I am left with errors like:

The "td" tag is missing an optional closing tag

or:

No closing tag was found for the "table" tag, which must be closed
