Smart tags - do they get stripped out ? (From final HTML)

SMART TAGS - SC Pro 5.0.1

Hi,

Am I right in thinking that "Smart Tags" - like
<curdb="products">
or
<recname="EALING (Black)">

are supposed to be stripped out of the final HTML when in use ?!

It seems that the <curdb> tag is being stripped out, but the
<recname> tag is not. And unfortunately this seems to be upsetting
the browsers!

BTW, the browser symptoms are:
MSIE 6 wont print correctly and Netscape 4.7 wont use anchors
