Question about quantities and adding items to cart...

Postby Brandon » Mon Apr 08, 2002 10:34 pm

A client of mine wants to use ShopSite but he is starting a site selling
custom embroidered wearables.... primarily B2B.

Most orders would be for the same item in several sizes and colors. The only
way I can think to add these items to the cart right now is for the customer
to enter an additional line item for each color/size and select their
quantity... which would mean they would have to add the item, then go back
and add it again and again until finished. This would most likely frustrate
all the users and lead to almost no sales.

He wants to have several boxes on the more info page that the user can input
quantities for each size/color ... or even possibly on the cart itself. It
would have to update the price as well. >>

[ 10 ] [ 15 ] [ 20 ] [ 5 ]
Small Medium Large XL

Anyway, would this be possible with ShopSite? I can't think of how to do it
and I'm afraid we're going to have to go back to the drawing board.

Any help would be appreciated.

I think you need to have options for an item. Look at my site
www.martyshoes.com since I sell 1400 items (shoes) and each item has up to
150 sizes. As long as each option can be listed and not need to be entered
by the customer, there is no problem. In the cart, you can have areas where
special instructions such as embroidery request can be made.

Brandon,

And I do the same thing at http://www.switchhits.com/art_nouveauis ... lates.html. Each item has up to 480 different variations which means 480 different skus. I build the item in ShopSite, import it to StoneEdgeOrderManager which builds all 480 subskus with one click which allows me to track my inventory in OrderManager. Since ShopSite doesn't allow for different and meaningful option descriptions for each option as other programs do (which I've asked for repeatedly to no avail), I'm investing in StoneEdge Ecom Assembler which will give me total control of what is said and where on each of my pages. So above my size options I can put "Select Size" and above the color options I can put "Select Color", etc. instead of one generic description which doesn't work.
