email receipts

Postby Gene Erickson » Mon Jan 07, 2002 5:49 pm

We upgraded from SSManager 4.3 to SSManager 5.01 recently and now the email
receipt that is sent to the customer is totally empty except for the
following:
______________________________

Thank you for your order!

Transaction # 1315
Comments / More Information
_________________________________

It contains:
no customer information
no product information
no footer
no nothing

Any suggestions?

Look in your Preferences -> Store Text screens and see if any of your text
settings contain just a '.' (period).

If you find one, change it to a space instead. Save the settings, try a test
order and see if you get the whole receipt.

I think this was caused because someone complained about a hard-coded ':'
(colon) after a text string that they couldn't get rid of, so in v5 the
hard-coded colon was removed. Then anyone having set the field to '.' (should
have used a space in the first place, but that's not necessarily intuitive)
would have that as the only character on the line. When sendmail (the UNIX mail
program) sees a period on a line by itself, it interprets that as the end of
the email.

I think the field might be Ordering Instructions in the Shopping Cart sub-menu
of Store Text or it might be Comments / More Information in the Checkout
sub-menu. But check them all. I hope this solution works for you.
