A Letter from ShopSite, Inc. regarding v6.0

Postby David H » Fri Dec 14, 2001 7:50 pm

Dear ShopSite Users,

I see a number of posts regarding the status of the next ShopSite release
(v6.0). I have also been e-mailed questions about the pending release. Let
me address some of your questions.

Q: When will the release be out?
A: Probably next month. Because of integration with some 3rd-party products
we need to give them time to test and this makes our release date uncertain.

Q: Why all the secrecy?
A: Until we are very close to the release date it is not in our interest to
let our competitors know what features we will be adding. We also do not
want to appear to be hyping something well before it is released. And it is
always possible that a feature that we were hoping to add does not make the
initial release.

Q: Why don't you release in increments rather than one "Big" release?
A: We will probably do more incremental releases in the future. As most of
you know the ShopSite product was somewhat restricted in the features that
the previous owner would allow to be added. Now that we are on our own
there were a number of features we felt had to be included in the next
version. The team has worked hard to have a major new release ready in only
six months since ShopSite, Inc. was spun-off.

Q: Why didn't you just release some of the new features in time for the
Christmas shopping season?
A: To make the holiday shopping season we would ideally need to release in
September (so you could demo the features and schedule an upgrade before the
busy holiday season began.) That would have meant a significant release
just 3 months after forming ShopSite, Inc. As much as we would have liked
to release a new product that fast it was not possible if we wanted to
deliver a high quality product with valuable features.

Q: So what are the new features going to be?
A: Sorry, I'm still not going to list them at this time but we'll soon get
the information out. I will say that most of what has been speculated is
pretty accurate!

Sincerely,
David Hills

Thank you for the letter!! This is very exciting and it is great to know all
this. I can't wait for 6.0. The Shopsite stores will take over the Net!

Thanks!
