Custom Product Templates - 2 Column?????

I am working on custom templates for our site www.2bigfeet.com (see the beta
at http://feet.creativedrive.net). Anyway, we want to set up both page and
product templates but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the
product template to be more than one column wide. What if I want to use two
or three columns? It's got to be possible... else why have a "product
template?"

If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate them!
