design control?

Postby Larry Olivarez » Thu Nov 08, 2001 5:24 pm

I am currently designing an interface for a site that will use the shopsite
software and I was wondering exactly how much control I have over the look
of the pages. I poked around some of the sample sites and must say I wasn't
too impressed, although I understand that these were meant to be
representative of the functionality. I would appreciate any input or links
to your own sites.

Thanks,
Larryo

Hi Larry,
custom product and page template files give you full control over the look&feel
of all products&pages (hence the name) - it's like a web content publishing
system were you can separate content from presentation. For an example of a
customized product & page layout, you can check out our site at
http://www.chinasprout.com

The only problem (hopefully until the next release) are the shopping
cart/check-out screens. Those are pretty static and almost non-customizable
(you'll notice a ShopSite store immediately when you see those pages), but if
your client can live with these pages (only 2 of those vs. 1,000s of product
pages) I think you can do a pretty good job with ShopSite's custom templates,

Hi Joachim,

Your site looks great. What programs are you using to do the wishlist and
registration? I noticed they were written in pcp. Did you write these
yourself or is it a third party program?

Thanks,

Katrina
