Customer Registration - helps or hurts ? Feedback

Postby Phil Spinelli » Tue Jun 15, 2004 11:23 am

Just wondering if anyone has tested customer Registration feature to see
if it helped your conversion rate (make more sales) or hurt sales since
it is a few extra things the customers has to do and remember.

thanks,
Phil

We have not implemented Customer Registration yet and would be very
interested in the thoughts and experiences of those that have.

Thank you

I found what I believe to be a serious drawback
The current implementation only saves the billing address if the customer
asks to "Save my Billing Information" and then only if he's paying by Credit
Card or COD.

So if you use generic payment options PO Number or such and the customer
selects "Save My Billing Information" the bill to address doesn't get saved
and the "cookie" gets overridden - From then on whenever the customer logs
in and places an order he has to type in his billing address (even if it's
the same as his ShipTo).

I submitted the following enhancement request to ShopSite

"The implementation would be much better if it always saved the Billing Name
& Address plus the shipping address (including the value of the "Use Billing
Address" radio button). Then if they elect to save their preferred payment
method, save it regardless of which one they choose (PayPal, PO Number,
Credit Card, Generic method, etc.)"

We second the request to have billing ADDRESS saved separately from credit card
info (especially since many people are nervous and prefer not to store the CC
info itself).
