Search Results formatting?

Is it possible to arrange the results page from a search?
Specifically, I would like to display the SKU number in addition to the
other items. I went to Store Preferences and Search Settings, but the
limits do not allow changing of fields there. We are running 7.0 and are
using several page and product templates.

There is not a setting to control what product fields are displayed in
the search results, and currently the search results page is not
templatable, although that is coming in a future version.
