Minimum pricing issues and packs

We're using 7.0.3
We have about 50 low value items (hats at $5.00 each retail) that we want to
put on-line but the we do not ship orders less than $13.50 (we've set this
is shopsite). We could create packs of 3 but each hat has different artwork
and we want our customers to be able to pick and choose what they include in
the pack (typically they would not want more than one of the same design) .
Now we could just inform customers on each hat product page that they need
to choose 3, as min order value is $13.50, but customers are notorious for
not
reading instructions/descriptions. Checking out with 1, they would see the
shopsite generated warning message "store has a minimum order amount of
US$13.50. In order to checkout it must be met"
Any suggestions as to how to do this elegantly?

Hi Richard,

the simple approach: Go to -> Commerce Setup - > Order System -> Shopping
Cart and edit the "Text displayed to the shopper when using a minimum order
amount:" field to a text that explains the customer what to do to be able to
check out.
