Custom pages & Order option drop-down menu not appearing

Postby Fred Holliss » Thu Oct 11, 2001 6:59 pm

I'm trying to get the Order Options dropdown to appear when defined in a
custom product template and in the matching More Info pages, but I can't
find the code for it. It's not listed in the Unsupported Fields category,
so I assume it can be done.

Code I've tried is

<!-- Here's where the option text and drop-down Options should appear -->
[-- IF PRODUCT.OptionText --]
[-- PRODUCT.OptionText --]<br>
[-- PRODUCT.OptionFiniteText --]<br>
[-- ELSE --]
<p>
[-- END_IF --]

But all that does is list the OptionText instructions and then the list of
options as plain text, not as a dropdown list.

Has anyone succeeded in this?

Fred,

The ability to put the pull-down's on the page with the regular ShopSite
templates was added in ShopSite 5, but the ability to call it from custom
templates won't be there until the next release.

When is the next release due?

Also, I would like to be able to put the list of cross-sells on a custom
teplate too. i.e. if you buy a widget, I'd like to be able to
auto-generate links to e.g. a video on how to use the widget or
accessories to make the widget more useful. Is that slated for the next
release?

Fred -

If you want a more advanced way of building your site, check out the Stone
Edge ECom Assembler at http://stoneedge.com/ecomassembler.htm

The ECom Assembler lets you put cross-sell items on product pages, and
format them any way you want.

It also lets you include a Quantity field with the order button. It does not
currently include having order option drop-downs with the order button,
mostly because we just haven't gotten around to that yet. We would be glad
to add that feature for you at no extra charge.

The ECom Assembler has lots of other features that are not available in
ShopSite pages or custom templates, such as custom fields, bulleted lists,
math fields and much more, plus the ability to organize your products into
categories, subcategories and groups. Rather than waste space listing them
all here, I invite you to check out the website listed above.

Please feel free to call me if you have any questions about the ECom
Assembler, or about our other ShopSite utility programs.

Mmm. I've seen your previous postings (I read all 230+ postings to this
newsgroup before I posted my question in case it had already been
answered) and I've perused your website closely. Unfortunately your
product is PC-only. We are an all-Mac shop. If you have any plans to port
your product to the Mac platform I would be more than interested.

We are re-launching our website with an overhaul this weekend (hence my
questions) and are concurrently upgrading to the latest version of
FileMaker Pro 5.5. The client runs on Windows 2000, NT, Classic Mac OS,
and Mac OS X, and the server runs on all of those plus Red Hat Linux 6.2.
If you could port your existing eComAssembler to FileMaker on the PC, it
would open up those other platforms to you too. (Not that I've seen a lot
of ShopSite users using Linux as their desktop OS, but I have noticed a
few posts from other Mac users.)

So please keep me informed if you plan to port any of your products to Mac
OS. As webmaster, my personal interest is in the eComAssembler product,
but our Controller would probably be interested in some of your inventory
and billing products too. And our Database Manager might be able to offer
some advice if you plan to port to FMPro.

Thanks.

Fred -

Oh, well. I used to be a big Apple supporter back in the old Apple // days -
I designed and co-authored the only relational DBM every written for the
Apple // ("DB Master"). But when the time came to move on, I decided to stop
fighting the inevitable, and joined the PC world.

The ECom Assembler could probably be re-written in File Maker Pro at a
reasonable cost, but I would have to have a few customers pre-order it to
justify the cost. The Order Manager is another story - it's a huge
applications, and would not be practical to convert. I've actually had a few
Mac shops purchase a PC just to run those programs. These days, you can buy
an adequate used PC for well under $500 complete, so it's not unreasonable
to do.

Good luck,
