non formatted price

This is probably not possible, but it never hurts to ask.

I need to write a javascript that performs different functions based on the
price of the item. Unfortunately, [-- PRODUCT.price --] preformats the price
with a $, which causes problems when trying to compare prices.

Is the are field (maybe with Smart Tags?) I can access that has an
unformated price?
