can anyone fix this error? "can\'t load settings file!&

Postby Chris Gilbert » Sat Aug 24, 2002 7:11 pm

Hello Everybody,

I've just moved dedicated servers with a special utility that is
supposed to transfer account flawlessly :), yeah right...

Anyway after searching every possible trick that I've used in the past
to fix shopsite quirks, I'm at a dead end.

Someone please help me, please !!!

Again the error when a click on any of the following orders, billing
will cause this: can't load settings file!

Kind Regards, Chris Gilbert

Figures after a 12 pack of vanilla coke and losing more hair, I fixed my
own problem. It has to do with how Apache SSL virtual hosts are
configured, the hosting company/cpanel software defines Virtual Host
without a user or group name, therefore causing the error: "can't load
settings file!" why? Well I think it has to do with permissions even
though the http:// cgi files have validated security on them, when the
cgi's request an https:// connection the SSL server loses it read/write
permissions in the ss and sc directories thus preventing it from loading
the needed *.aa files. Yes, thank you ladies and gentleman, another
one for the annals of Chris Gilberts self inflicted technical learning
camps.

Good Night Everyone!

As you've discovered, this usually happens when the SSL server (https)
is not running as the same user as the non-SSL server (http).
