(null) in Shipping Screen amount & receipt

Postby George B. Hug » Sat Jul 21, 2001 10:45 am

Hi,

Well, another little glitch to go along with my Database locking up with
(almost) every order. When in the shopping cart checkout screen, instead of
displaying the dollar amount for the shipping charge, the word (null)
appears instead. The cart total is correct, and includes the actual shipping
amount. This is also true of the email receipt, where (null) replaces the
shipping amount.

I'm beginning to think that this is also related to the problems with the
Database lockup. Also, it appears that some of the orders are actually going
through to VeriSign, but no receipts or orders are getting recorded in the
store. I have HostPro looking into the problem now, but their main Shopsite
guy will not be in till Monday--so our store is still down, and we have not
had a sale since late Wed.

Any and all advise or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

George.
You didnt mention what version of shopsite you are using but you DID mention
that you are using VeriSign so I am resending the E-mail from SHOPSITE that
I received TODAY about this issue. I replied on a separate message but I
belive this may be the reason for your problem. See e-mail text that
follows:

Dear ShopSite Tech Bulletin Subscriber:

If you use VeriSign (formerly Signio, PaymentNet, Seque Systems, and On-line
Analysis) as a payment gateway with ShopSite version
4.3 or earlier you need to be aware of the following information.

Sometime Thursday evening on July 19, 2001 the VeriSign payment gateway
stopped working in ShopSite versions 4.3 and earlier.
Symptoms of the problem include:

1) The order does not complete from the billing page when you click on
the "Submit this Order" (or "Finalize Order") button. The
CGI (browser page) times out.
2) After the above happens you may get "The database is locked" messages.
Clearing the locks via the ShopSite Utilities menu does
not solve the problem because the next time an order is placed the CGI times
out and a new lock remains.

To immediately work-around or solve this problem you can either:

1) Set ShopSite to capture orders for manual processing and then re-enter
them via your VeriSign web interface.
2) Upgrade to ShopSite v5.0.1

ShopSite, Inc. is providing VeriSign information and test stores so that
they can diagnose the problem. Hopefully a solution will
be found quickly but in the meantime the above two options are the only
solutions.

MANUAL PROCESSING
To instruct ShopSite to capture orders for manual processing:
1) Go to Commerce Setup
2) Click on the Payment button
3) Select the "manual (off-line)" radio button
4) Save the changes

UPGRADING TO 5.0.1
To upgrade to ShopSite v5.0.1:
1) If you are hosted at a ShopSite partner contact your ISP.
2) If you are not hosted at a ShopSite partner have your admin e-mail
info@shopsite.com and note that you want to upgrade to 5.0.1
to solve a VeriSign payment gateway problem.
Note that Version 5.x is not available for the NT or Windows 2000 server
platform (but a beta version is available). It is also not
available for Solaris Intel platforms.

WHY DOES SHOPSITE v5.x WORK?
ShopSite versions 4.3 and earlier used version 1.x of the VeriSign payment
gateway interface. ShopSite v5.0 uses version 2.x of
VeriSign's interface. It may be that the current problems are unique to the
1.x VeriSign gateway interface.

I do not believe the VeriSign/Signio problems would make (null) appear
in any of the fields.

BTW, according to VeriSign the problems have been fixed and I have heard
from several merchants already confirming this.

Loren, et all

Well, thank goodness our store is mostly back to normal, and credit card
transactions are going through again. But, we still have the annoying (null)
problem. In the process of trying to fix the shopping cart issue, we
upgraded from 4.1 to 4.3 and that's where we are now. Can't seem to get
HostPro (our provider) and ShopSite together to upgrade to 5.0.1, so I don't
know if that will fix the (null) problem in the shipping charge field or
not.

Again, would really appreciate any help or insight with this?

Thanks,

Try going to Preferences -> Store Text -> Shipping and remove the ':'
(colon) from the text of the shipping option names replacing it with a
'-' (dash) or something, Save the settings and then place a test order.

This would be why your final shipping option, which is the only one
without a colon, works while the others produce the (null).
