Add to Cart & View Cart Graphic Buttons

Postby Larry Bohen » Thu May 02, 2002 8:24 am

We updated to ShopSite SC Pro 6.0.3 a couple of days ago. We used to have
text "Add to Cart" and "View Cart" links associated with each product on the
"Products List" pages and "More Info" pages. Now, even though "Button
Customization" in "Edit Product Layout" is marked for text "Add to Cart" and
"View Cart" links, a ShopSite graphic button shows up.

How do I get rid of the graphic buttons?

Thanks

I've been having an on-going problem with this. When products are added
several at a time the buttons default to ShopSite's standard buttons, and
the search feature also defaults to "Store". I change the buttons by
performing a global edit on all products. I am unable to change the Search
function by editing. The only way to avoid this is to add one product at a
time - a real pain when your inventory changes as often as ours does.

I keep asking my hosting company to find a solution, and thus far they have
not been able to get ShopSite to correct the problem. The only response
I've heard is that ShopSite techs are unable to duplicate the problem - but
they test one product at a time, and that is not how the problem manifests
itself.

I'm getting frustrated by an otherwise excellent product that is just not
performing as advertised. And thanks anyway, StoneEdge users, I still don't
think I should have to buy add-on programs to get ShopSite to perform as
promised!

Kevin,

The PowerEdit issue was fixed in the 6.0.3 maintenance release that Larry
mentioned.

The Add Several problem was also an issue in v5, and prior to v5, the Image
option wasn't even available, everything had to be done through the text field
(and image could be used, but you would need to provide the whole IMG SRC tag in
the text field, which is still a great workaround in your case). It will be
fixed in a future version (was brought to light too late for 6.0.3).

Mystery / problem solved by Lexiconn!

I just spoke with Rob and he said he thought the problem I describe below
was because I had checked the "Display Order Quantity" feature for each
product.

I selected all our products (6600) and removed the check for "Display Order
Quantity" with a global Poweredit. Regenerated and our store is back to how
I want it. I.E. [Purchase Audio Book] and [Checkout] are text links now, not
buttons.

Larry,

What page on your site would we see this on? I have looked at several pages so
far and haven't seen this yet.

My guess, though, without having seen the problem is that for these particular
products that are having the problem the "Display Order Quantity:" and/or "
Display Ordering Options:" options are checked in the Edit Product Layout
section. Since the pull-down option choices and the quantity number have to come
through an HTML form, Add to Cart and View Cart buttons can no longer be just
links like they were without these options, they now have to be FORM SUBMIT
buttons. The way browsers handle FORM SUBMIT buttons is to render them as these
brown/gray blocky-looking buttons with the text on them. This is NOT a graphic,
and it is nothing that can be helped or controlled by ShopSite if you are
configuring your products this way, it is a browser widget that creates the text
submits as the ugly button looking things. Your options are to either turn off
those two options in Edit Product Layout so that the buttons can go back to just
being plain HTML links, or you can actually assign your own graphic to be the
Add to Cart and View Cart image via the Image pull-down. FORM SUBMIT buttons can
be images.
