Customer form for public directory

Postby 4erika » Tue Jan 29, 2013 1:42 pm

I am getting ready to switch over my current website to a ShopSite website. One feature that I have on my current website is a directory listing of face painters (I have a face painting supply company). It's a publicly viewable directory so my customers can reach their customers who search for face painters in their area. This is just something that I manually put on the website when a customer sends me their information.

I'd like to have some sort of form that they fill out that will automatically (or after my approval) be uploaded to the website. Is there an app for that? Or is there a neat and tidy way to create pages of listings that includes text info, website links, and photos?

Here is a link to my current directory....I know, it's a mess. I want the new directory to be much more uniform.

Thanks

There is no built in way to have a form for people to fill out and have the information populate something in ShopSite. You might look into Form Mail which most hosting companies offer. It would allow you to setup a page where the face painters could enter their information and it would then be sent to you by email.

Once you have the information you could create a "product" that contains the information for the face painter so they could be worked with similar to products and assigned to different pages (By State, City etc). You would just create a product template that displayed the information about the person, Name, Address, website etc. of course you wouldn't want an add to cart button or view cart button on their information but other than that it could be pretty much like a product. I did something similar for a dormitory directory at a college where I worked with a group of students. I had the student's picture, name and phone number on one page and made the picture a link to the " More info page" about the student, hobbies, major, home address etc.
The directory also contained listings (pages) by dorm floor which would be similar to having your face painter assigned to pages by state.

That's kind of what I figured. Thanks, Jim.
