SSL IN Shopping Cart

Postby krawicks » Mon Nov 19, 2012 6:11 am

I purchased an SSL through my Hosting Company, I wanted my SSL to show up on the Cart and Checkout screens. They are telling me I can't have it on my cart because the shopsite 11 is not compatible with SSL. They said they would have to downgrade me to 10 which I don't want to do. They have installed the SSL on the Checkout only. Are they correct in telling me that in 11 you can't have SSL on the Cart?

There is no reason for the first shopping cart screen to be secure, the shopper enters no personal data on that screen so there is no need to have it secure. Once they go to the screen Checkout screen, where they enter their billing and shipping addresses and their payment information, the url should be secure. That is the way ShopSite is designed to work. It has worked the same way since at least ShopSite 3 back in 1998 so ShopSite 10 would function no differently than ShopSite 11 does in that regard. If your first shopping cart screen is not secure but when the shopper clicks on the Checkout button it goes to a secure url, it is working correctly.

I had shopsite 10 in the past and it did have my SSL on the cart. I wanted it there because customers do enter a zip code in the cart and to give customers a sense of security once they start the checkout process. However, if it can't be done then it can't be done.

Thanks

It could be done but causes unnecessary delay in page loads and extra server usage since everything has to be encrypted when a page is secure.
If you had it configured that way previously I don't know why your host would have had to change it just upgraded your store.
