Require Phone Number for PayPal?

In my Checkout Screen settings I have Phone Number Required turned on for both Billing and Shipping Addresses. However, this rule doesn't seem to apply to customers that pay by PayPal. Is there a way to require Phone Number for PayPal payments. We need to call customers to clarify orders, provide delivery time updates, etc.

If they pay on the PayPal site then they (PayPal) are the ones that collect the information. They dictate what information they will provide back to the seller. So you need to see if there is a setting in your PayPal account that will require the phone number.

Thanks Jim for the quick reply. I did just contact PayPal and they report that they do not offer such a feature (requiring phone #). They suggest that I'd need to somehow capture that information on my own, before the customer chooses to pay by PayPal.

Any ideas on the best way to do this? If you view my site (www.dancesupplies.com), in my Shopping Bag screen, the customer can choose PayPal, Google, Amazon before they even get to my checkout screen where they would enter such information.

You could add a note to the Ordering instructions box text asking them to enter their phone number in the box.

You could require the customer to register using the Customer Registration feature. That way you could get some of the information from the Customer Registration data in the back office if it doesn't happen to be in the order.

You could switch to a different PayPal method that has the shopper fill out the information on your store instead of on the PayPal site. I believe that both PayPal Payments Pro and Express Checkout do that.

You could create a custom checkout field for the phone number on the checkout screen and require that field. (commerce Setup > Order System > Checkout > Custom Checkout Fields near the bottom of the screen.

Funny, I'm a Lexiconn client (you guys are great!), but I didn't want to bother you with this question so I thought I'd try here first.

Along the same lines, I have a new store and haven't yet had any Amazon/Google orders, but I'm sure we will soon so are there similar ways to require a phone # through those services?
