Free Shipping Configuration

Postby GiftSpecialists » Wed May 02, 2012 9:25 am

We want to offer free ground shipping only on a certain product, however, we will incorporate the cost of shipping into the price of the product itself. I cannot find a way to make this work. Here are the scenarios that I have considered:

1 - Free Shipping Coupon
PROS -
- can choose exact products
- applies to ground only
- still shows expedited shipping options
CONS -
- Expedited shipping costs are too high becuase it does not subtract the ground amount that is included in the product cost
- shopper must add the coupon to the cart

2 - Do Not Apply Shipping Charges to That Product
CONS -
- does not show the expedited shipping options

Is there a way to do this that I am not thinking about?

Thanks,
Rick,

Perhaps you could use order options for the shipping cost.
Mark the product as "No Shipping Charges: checked.
Then create Ordering Options like this
Shipping method;n
Expedited (adds 5.00) ;+5.00
Ground (free)

The shopper will not be able to check out of the shopping cart because the Shipping method;n option forces a menu selection. They can then choose either the Expedited or Ground shipping method. If they choose the Expedited 5.00 (or whatever you put) will be added to the base cost of the product. (This requires Pro or Manager level of ShopSite, it won't work in Starter level)

Jim, Thanks for the idea.

The problem I see with that is when we download and process the orders, there will be no shipping option selected, and our shipping system will always default to Ground when printing the shipping label. Of course we would catch "MOST" of them...

So this solution probably will not work, as we would screw up orders (i.e. lose customers and money).

Any other ideas???

One idea I was just thinking about is to lower the products published weight so that the expedited shipping options would be cheaper. But I haven't dug into that yet.

Jim,

We are using ShopSite 11. Is there currently a way to have the free shipping coupon applied applied automatically at the same time a customer adds the product to thier cart?

Or a text link that will add a specific coupon to their cart?

Thanks

There is no way to add a product and coupon to the cart at the same time.

When you create a coupon there is a url and corresponding link created and displayed at the bottom of the screen. That url/link will add the coupon to the cart. The url can be used any where you want to place it, just like the order anywhere Add to Cart buttons for products. So you could put it on a store page, in an email, as a link from an online coupon image, etc.

Actually, a coupon and a product CAN be added to the cart together now, thanks to our friends at Lexiconn (www.lexiconn.com).
