Images disappear from media folder?

Postby MServitus » Thu Apr 26, 2012 10:48 am

I uploaded a large number of images to the media folder via ftp... As additional images were uploaded via the back office interface; previous images were lost... Shopsite v11 on Verio BSD Virtual server... I also saw products that had been added to pages lose page definitions.... any ideas?

Some one restored the directories from a backup that wasn't current?

No. No update from an out of date media folder. We are in the process of re-creating a bunch of products ( approx 3000) from an existing SS8 version to a new SS11. We started by ftping all of the media folder on day one from one machine/SS installation to the new installation. Then we started downloading, reformation (for DB changes) and uploading the products from the old to the new.
After doing about 50 %, everything was looking good.
As we continued working on the next 50 %, we starting seeing big chunks of image files disappearing. the file reference was still in the products definition, but we'd suddenly lose all of the pictures from the products on the first page, or the 3rd, or 4th page. Sometimes everything alphabetically between be.. and da have not pictures. Other times its one here, 4 there, and 6 on the next page.

Any ideas..?

Are the images totally gone from the server or are they just not appearing on pages any more?

What types of other software are you using on the site, such as html editors, ftp clients etc? I know that some wysiwyg html editors take over a site and change permissions on files and directories that they should not even be touching.

Could be disk issues such as the data being on multiple drives which are NFS mounted and there is something wrong with the NFS mounting. I've seen cases where orders would sometimes disappear and then reappear because of NFS mounting issues.
