old index.html with http redirect keeps getting generated

Postby nina_online » Wed Apr 25, 2012 9:19 am

Hello,

I was trying out an redirect (http-equiv="refresh") on my index page but now I can't get rid of it.

If I publish with a change made to my Home page (which I've given the filename index.html), this is what happens:

Generating Page:[index.html]
Generating Page [18:Home]...

and my desired home page shows up (i.e. with URL www.mydomain.com/store/index.html).

But if I make a change to another page, say FAQs, this is what happens:

Generating Page:[index.html]
Generating Page [17:FAQs]...

and the old index.html with the redirect takes over and I can't go to my store's home page without being redirected to our old website.

Also, even if I overwrite the index.html file via ftp, as soon as I edit another page and publish, it generates the index.html file with the redirect.

This is getting me in a pickle as my client needs to be able to see the home page while I am editing and publishing other pages and then we need to go live on Friday.

Thanks for any help,
Nina

You probably have 2 (or more) pages with the filename of index.html. So look at your pages (in Advanced Editing mode) and near the bottom of the screen is a section "Advanced Info " that has a Filename field. Make sure that only the page you want as your main page has the name index.html.

If you have Pro or Manager you can use the Power edit feature to look at the Filename field in all the pages at once. Go to Pages and select all the pages (or at least the ones you suspect might have the index.html filename), click the Power edit button, select the File name field in the left column and (make sure you choose the Individual radio button in a Pro store) and then click Proceed. All the pages you selected will be displayed with the Filename field so you can see where the duplicates are. Make any changes if necessary and save changes.

I don't have two pages with the same filename.

Any other ideas?

I just figured it out. There was a smarthtml folder with an index.html that had the redirect in it. I deleted that file and it's okay now.

Thanks.
