exclude specific products from qualifying for free shipping

On our site if you spend over $80 you get free shipping, but there are a couple large items that the shipping is too expensive and we lose money on. I tried applying a handling fee but the free shipping overrides this. What is the best solution to exclude a couple items from free shipping or add a handling fee that isn't nullified by the free shipping?

The only way I can think of to exclude certain products from free shipping would be to use the Free Shipping Coupon feature of the ShopSite Pro package. In coupons you can specify what products the coupon applies to (or if you have version 11 or newer of ShopSite, you can choose the products to be excluded). One thing to be aware of for the Free Shipping Coupon is that it can only be set to apply to one shipping option.

I'm not sure that the coupon code is the ideal solution. Each product has a check box the says "Free Shipping", I wish there was one that said "No free shipping". Thanks anyway I always appreciate the help.

We have Shopsite 10, so 11 allows products to be excluded from Free Shipping? Any idea what it cost to upgrade?

You will need to talk to your website host or the firm you purchased ShopSite from to find the cost to upgrade your store from one version to the next.

The upgrade will need to be done by someone who has access to the server. It is a simple thing to do for stores that have there own set of cgis but if the store is sharing cgis with other stores hosts may be reluctant to do it because it will affect all stores using the cgis. It is always a good practice to make a backup before doing an upgrade. There is rarely any issue that would cause you to have to rebuild a store from scratch, most installs proceed without any issues.
