"Item Added to Cart" Alert

Has anyone come up with a way to notify a shopper that an item has been successfully added to the shopping cart when they are set to NOT to view the cart after adding each item...a pop-up alert or something a bit more noticeable than the updated mini-cart (if in use)....or perhaps have the mini cart blink or be highlighted for a moment?
