Using resized images

Postby AntonioT » Tue Aug 09, 2011 5:01 am

Is there an easy way of getting the resized images created by shopsite into the media directory so they can be used as banners? I had to go into my hosting file manager and manualy move the files out of the media/ss1 folder and into the mdia folder. Seems counter intuitive that you can't use resized images straight away.

Also, my resized image went from having a white background to having a black one. Seems that the colours became inverted.
What happened?
And how can avoid this next time?

No, there is no way to have the resize images be placed in the main media directory. The resized image feature is setup so that it does not override your original images. If the resized image was placed in your media directory, it would override the original. If you always upload full images that are way larger than you need (such as if you are uploading images that are 2000px wide), you can set ShopSite to automatically resize the original image when you upload it. The resized original image will be placed in the media directory. You can configure the maximum sizes for the resized original image by going to Images > Configure.

The resized image feature was added so that you can quickly resize product images; the product medium size image (often the more information image) the small image (often the thumbnail) and the x-small image (often displayed in the shopping cart). When this feature was added, the pull down menus for size were only included in the product image selection areas. In ShopSite version 10 sp2 (I believe), the image resize selection pull down menu was added for other images such as the link graphic, and the global images under Preferences > Layout Settings. You are correct that this pull down menu is left out of the banner graphic option. One way around this is to just manually type in the folder name. For example, when you select your page banner graphic (ie. banner.jpg), and you want to use a resized image, you can simply type in "ss_size1/" in front of your image name(ie. ss_size1/banner.jpg).

Ok, that makes sense.

Now, is there a place I would go to put my logo at the top of the site on all pages?

Once you have uploaded your logo, you can go to Preferences > Layout Settings, and select your logo as your company logo (this was added in version 10 sp1).
