invalid coupon

I defined a couple of coupon codes last night - no limitations, apply to total order, expires in May. Tried them both with the shopping cart and got 'invalid coupon code' for both. I did not take any other steps other than defining the coupon. Am I supposed to do something else to make them valid?

I was using the coupon name, not the code. Sorry for the post
