Moved from Hostcentric to Lexiconn

Postby hiamps » Thu Sep 30, 2010 12:59 pm

Well wish us luck, our orders page has locked up on us twice this month and we are done. We were probably one of their oldest accounts, since 1997. We should be live shortly and have already been upgraded to service pack2! We are really excited and know this is the best thing we have done for our website in years! We lost 2 months worth of updates as when hostcentric fixed out site last week it was with a backup from beginning of July and all product and pages since have been lost. Funny thing was when it came back on line their were "New Orders" Showing. They were orders from june and july that we had processed and the CVC number should have been gone but came up when we checked the orders....Oh well a new day and no looking back!

Well for any that are wondering our site is up and running with Lexiconn faster than Hostcentric could fix my broken site. I will call hostcentric in a bit and let them know they don't need to waste any more time trying to fix it.

We feel like we are using shopsite for the first time. I thought shopsite just slowed down as you added more products but was wrong. It used to take about 5 minutes to re-generate our store, now it takes seconds. Used to take forever to add a product to a page as the popup took a long time to load now it is right there. If you are using shared hosting and your site is Slow, that is worth upgrading right there. Everytime Hostcentric did a shopsite upgrade I had to redo all my order anywhere buttons, this time they all work! We weren't even on SP1 now I have SP2. We finally feel we can make a real professional website all by ourselves. In just a couple days it is already much easier to navigate with lots of changes on the way. For the first time EVER shopsite sent all my products to google Base. The change was a million times easier than we had thought. Our only regret is that we didn't do it a long time ago. You really do get what you pay for.

Finally got a responce from Hostcentric sure glad we made the change...

Hello,

Thank you for contacting support.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Your shopsite store has exceeded the limits of the platform. The database for the store is currently 7.6M and because of that, you will continue to experience similar timeouts / locks etc unless the database is significantly reduced in size. You can reduce the size of the db using the utilities -> database tools. There are tools to download the products and pages data, back up the database, empty the database, and upload products and pages data. We recommend you to reduce the number of products / pages in your store dramatically if you intend to continue utilizing the shopsite store on the shared hosting platform.

If you have any further questions, you can email us back or update the Support Console. We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Best Regards,

Jeffrey Frias

First, I just want to say that I think the move to Lexiconn will serve you incredibly well in the long run. Their system functionality and support are second to none.

However, in the interest of comparing 'apples to apples", I notice the reply from Hostcentric mentioned you were using a shared hosting platform. Are you still using shared hosting with Lexiconn? How does the price compare?

Just curious. In the long run, I'm sure the quality of service and support you receive from Lexiconn will be well worth any small difference in price.

Hostcentric doesn't offer shopsite on non-shared servers or at least didn't in Febuary when I asked. Going with your own server is more expensive but all the features work. This was the first time Hostcentric ever told me my problem as I never get passed their Indian Tech Support. Everytime we called with a problem we were worried that in fixing the problem something else would screw up which usually did. Their support time is 24 - 48 hours so far Lexiconn has answered and fixed every issue in 5 minutes or less. It was a real hard decision for us to change, we had been with Hostcentric in one form or another since 1997. If you are small and starting out Hostcentric can save you lots of money and for the most part have pretty good uptime, it's just when things go wrong they seem to go real wrong before they get better. Their Canadian support is awsome but hard to get thu to. I wish they had told me back in Febuary when all our problems started happening a lot as to what the real problem was but they didn't. If you used shared hosting a lot of features won't work and updates may be a long way off. But more than anything else...I won't miss their India tech support........
