Data passed to Search Function

Is there an input to the Search CGI were you can pass to the Search Template information from the calling page, in addition to the search string?

We want to be able to present a specific search page depending on the source of the search (only two different formats). It is *&^*&%^% impossible as far as we can tell.

Because of cross scripting security issues most ShopSite cgis will only accept the parameters that should be passed to them. If additional parameters are passed in the url they will either be ignored or the cgi will not execute.

For ShopSite 10sp2,In response to a request dealing with search:
"that a merchant is unable to track search terms from ShopSite's product search feature in Google Analytics because the search terms are not in an identifiable query parameter in the search results URL."
a change was made to the way the search form is handled. Here us the comment from the engineer who did the work.
"Changed the search form to use the GET method instead of POST. "

I don't know if that will help you or not but if you don't have the latest version you may want to look into it. You can get a demo store at http://shopsite.com/demo.html that should be the latest version.

Jim

We have developed a method by using the [-- SEARCHSTRING --] and the three different Search Templates to produce two different specific search output pages.

Thanks for your help
