Add a Product Link to a page

Postby mjbrunelle » Mon Aug 16, 2010 8:00 pm

There seems to be a big discussion on wish lists.

We assign a unique group name to each customer. This serves two purposes, one we can pull the customer discount from the group name and show that on the product pages, not just in the cart. Also, it acts as a unique file name so a registered customer can have a specific page to them.

If SS would make it possible to update the Product Links to the page through a CGI, we would have an integrated Wish List without having to use the third party. Which in our opinion is somewhat unprofessional to ask a customer to leave our site to create a wish list.

What you are describing would require dynamic pages so that the content on those pages can change depending on who comes to your website. ShopSite creates static pages purposefully because static pages are more easily indexed by search engines, and will typically load faster and can handle more traffic. Because ShopSite creates static pages, the content on those pages, like the product price, will remain the same regardless of who comes to the website.

We update the price on the pages after the fact with javascript and DOM scripting.

I agree it would be somewhat dynamic, but my point was to use some of the SS Back Office functions.

Allow a call to add/delete product links to an existing customer specific page. After the add/delete the page would need to be republished and then we would handle refreshing the browser page.
