Best ShopSite Web Hosting?

Postby davidmamal44 » Wed Aug 11, 2010 1:44 pm

I'm looking for a reliable web host supporting ShopSite. I'm doubtful between Godaddy and Bluehost. Godaddy is reputed and Bluehost seems to be a reliable and easy-to-use service for installing and managing ShopSite.

Please take a look at:

As you see BlueHost provides easy one-click installation and management of ShopSite.

Which is better? Godaddy or Bluehost? Do you recommend any other web host to install ShopSite? Please share your personal experience, specially if you have experience with Bluehost or Godaddy.

Thank you

The installation is automated with both companies. GoDaddy has their own built in automated install process; BlueHost has an automated install with a company/program called "SimpleScripts" which you referenced in your original post.

The ShopSite software is pretty much the same with wherever you host. What I would recommend is to take a look at the various hosts and compare what is most important for you. If you are most focused on support and 'hand-holding' you will want to contact the companies directly to find out if support is 24/7 or only during business hours, or if it is phone and email, or email only, etc. You may also want to ask some specific questions to see how knowledgeable the support staff is. If server settings are most important to you, you will want to talk with the hosting providers to see how full their servers are, what their up-time is, as well as other hosting settings such as SSL, emails, etc, that are important to you. If cost is most important you will want to see how much ShopSite plus hosting is. Some companies list their regular hosting price, then have ShopSite as an additional fee on top of hosting, whereas others list their hosting plan pricing with the various levels of ShopSite built in.

I'm a very happy customer with iPage.com, you should check them out. They also have ShopSite =)

You could try googling reviews about the webhosts you're looking into. Bluehosts was also one of my options then. In the end, I decided to go with iPage.com. And I've been happy since.

Just be sure you select a service provider that maintains the ShopSite CGIs in your domain.

We started with a company that had our store files in our company domain, and maintained the CGI's and other data in another domain. This resulted in issues with the "Continue Shopping" links. Also our customers kept being shown as logged out when they returned to the store, because we could not read the cookie that had been written by the other domain.

I'd use a host that specializes in ShopSite. I use pair.com for dozens of stores and have had as large as 180,000 products in a store. Their support really knows ShopSite well. No reliability issues.

Lexicon would be my second choice. Again - they know SS inside and out and have several add-ons options although a bit more expensive. Keep in mind the "GoDaddy"'s/low budget host can hurt you with shared IP's, IP's in 'bad neighborhoods" and since you are paying bottom dollar, don't expect top dollar support.

Lexiconn.

I can't say enough about them. I started with iPower which turned out to be a joke. After about 150 pages and 500 products the site started getting very, very slow. It was happening on both sides, the users side and the admin side. It was taking minutes (no exaggeration) for admin pages to load and things to list. I went to Lexiconn, the change over was flawless and fast and now I'm at over 300 pages and at almost 1100 products and counting and it's still fast.

The support that I've needed was also immediate, fast and accurate. I had to listen to iPower telling me that my site was too big and that ShopSite wasn't designed to handle this much product, meanwhile I had ShopSite showing me sites larger than mine running their software without an issue. I don't get excuses from the techs at Lexiconn, I get results.
