Adding extra product fields to search options

We have added 5 product fields to our product info and wish those fields to be searchable using the standard shopsite search.
Right now it does not appear that they are, and we get no results on searches even though we know it contains the information searched for
(for that matter it doesnt seem to be returning a result even though we know the search term is in the product description for some of them as well, but never mind)
How do I add the extra product fields to the fields checked by a search?

You can configure what fields are search-able, the relevance of those fields, and a few other search settings by going to Preferences > Search Settings > Search Indexing. If you have numbers in those fields you will want to make sure that you check the checkbox to index numbers.

on my search settings page I do not see any place at all that enables me to select fields other than the hard coded ones of:
name, sku, description, more info text and the ordering options and google merchant ones.
Where is the option to add the fields?

What level of ShopSite do you have? This is a feature that is only available in ShopSite Pro. ShopSite Manager and ShopSite Starter do not have this feature.

Do you have a ShopSite Pro or Manager store? My guess is that it is a manager store so those fields are not available for indexing.

You can determine the product level by clicking on the ShopSite tab in the back office and then look in the footer for something like "ShopSite® Manager ..." or "ShopSite® Pro ..."
