I'll buy a pizza! for help on this newbie question

Postby shopsite_music » Wed Jun 23, 2010 5:17 pm

Let me know what town you live in - name and phone number of pizza joint and your choice of a pie... I'd be really grateful for the first person who can give me step-by-detailed-step how to fix this issue. I know pizza isn't a big payment, but I'd sure be grateful.

I wish I could reduce the width of the main shopping cart section at:

(You may have to paste the full URL in your browser)

I'd like to reduce it to the same width as the logo at top.

I think there are 2 issues that are causing the page to be too wide.

1. The product name is all on one line and is quite long. Try adding a <br> between Package and (DVD in the product name. That will force the name to be on 2 lines and probably will reduce the width to within the boundary you want.

2. The image is really quite large for a shopping cart screen. All it is there for is to give to the shopper a visual idea of what they are buying. Try reducing the size of the image by another 20% to say 200 x 140 or even smaller.

Thanks Jim - But I found that even if I removed everything from the cart, the body of the shopping cart is still too wide. I think there is a setting somewhere deep in the bowels of .css that needs to be changed. I have looked and looked, but cannot find it.

Try removing or decreasing the widths on bgmiddle and mainarea.

The main section of the page appears to be wrapped on 3 divs with IDs bgmiddle, mainarea, and content-noleft.

It looks like the size is being set by css. I think the file is congruence.css and it has background areas set to 910 px with the mainarea set to 879.

So you would need to make a copy of the congruence.css file by going to Merchandising > Custom Templates > Includes. Use the Copy ShopSite Include and then select the congruence.css file giving it a name of congruence.css1 so it will be different and click Copy.

Now select the congruence.css1 and use the Copy Include button to make another copy of the file but this time call it congruence.css (so just get rid of the 1 at the end). You can then delete the congruence.css1. The new congruence.css, which you will edit, will override the original ShopSite congruence.css that you copied from so your changes in this file will now display where ever that file is used.

Next select that congruence.css name from the list and click Edit to open the file for editing. Search for "mainarea" and set the width to something less than the 879. and save changes. You might also want to search for 910 which is used for the background size in multiple areas and change that to something smaller too.

For the changes to appear on the shopping cart screen you will need to just refresh the screen but for any pages or moreinfo pages you will need to do a complete publish of the store. If you are using order anywhere button on your own html pages you won't need to publish.

Yes, you'll need to change the bgtop and bgbottom width also. Note that these are being used with a background image to create the rounded edges of the main cart area, so you may also need to modify the background image.

I was doing a search on another topic and found your question.

And I see that you still have a Wide shopping cart screen...

I have the same issue - I ended up containing the shopping cart in a table that was 55% of the screen.

Take a look at this thread from today...

Sausage, Mushroom, and Black Olives....
Nothing is ever simple.
