Multiple product view popup

Postby sibylp » Wed Apr 07, 2010 3:26 pm

Hello all,
I'm working on a site that has multiple product views on the more info pages. I'd like to set it up so that when they click on the thumbnail, the popup image comes up bigger than the rollover image. I tried starting with a larger image and using CSS to make the rollover image smaller to fit into the window, but ShopSite's CSS is inline and overrides my styles. I can't seem to find a way around this. The page in question is here:

http://www.worldwisejewelry.com/shopSite/B-KZ00015.php

You can see that currently the rollover and popup images are the same size. I don't see a lot of point in that, but can't seem to find a way around it. All help is welcome!

Thanks,
.s

I'm not a designer so I cannot give any specific code help or anything; but there is a page in the ShopSite custom template cookbook that talks about creating a pop up image when a graphic is clicked on. It is found at the following URL:

Thanks for the link. It looks from that page like I could use that to program just the popups, but then I wouldn't be able to use the built-in rollovers unless I hand-coded those too. I guess I'm hoping I don't have to build this from the ground up for one piece of missing functionality, when it does everything else it's supposed to.

Is there any way to get more directly into the code that's being generated so I can override the ShopSite styles? I think this is my biggest frustration in ShopSite: there are too many places that should be easily customizable, but aren't because the CSS class and ID callouts are inaccessible or clunky. Unless I'm just approaching it all wrong...in which case I'd LOVE to be enlightened. :)

Did you customize one of the built-in ShopSite templates, or upload your own template for use in the store?

I started with a really basic built-in template...the default one I think and I've just added the code needed for the added functionality (I used the instructions from another forum: http://support.lexiconn.com/news/viewtopic.php?t=385) for this functionality. In general this approach has served me pretty well.

I haven't seen an example of a ShopSite template that does what I need yet, though other carts do this. Honestly, it seems like this "should" be built into the code. I don't know why anyone would want to have the popup image be the same size as the one on the rollover. I would think that the whole point of clicking on the image would be to get a bigger view, not the same size.

Am I missing something, or is this just not possible without writing entirely custom code?

I'm not sure you'd need "entirely custom code." It could probably be done with some relatively minor adjustments to one of the built-in product templates.
