Can't get past shopping cart page

Postby megantrever » Wed Mar 31, 2010 10:14 pm

I'm trying to set up (style, mostly) a store for a client using the Shop Anywhere method. I uploaded some product, generated the code for a test button on the site; and went ahead with styling the Shopping Cart -- logo etc., all of which seemed to work fine. Then I put the same style onto the Checkout, Confirmation, and Thank You pages, but when I tried to click through to see how it looked, the buttons won't work. "Recalculate" and "Empty Cart" work OK, but "Continue Shopping," "Pay with Paypal," and "Checkout" are dead. I did put a product button directly on a Shopsite page to see if that made a difference, but it didn't. Could this be because we haven't fully set up the commerce parts? I only did what was necessary to get the thing functioning for styling. That doesn't seem right, but it's all I can think of. Since I'm only a little way invested, I asked my host if they'd reset the defaults so at least I'll know if it was something I did!

PS, Jim, thanks for getting back to me so fast with my username! I was surprised. Once I had that I knew which password I would probably have used, and here I am. (Sorry, I hate emoticons but it just fits.)

How did you style the cart? Did you edit the cart templates?

Also, the buttons you are referring to should really only appear on the first page of the cart.

shopping cart style

I uploaded the client's logo and positioned it to the right. Also loaded a graphical element at the bottom of the page. Hm. The bottom graphic has a negative margin. Do you suppose that could be getting in the way?

Yup, that's it. I moved the graphic down and it works. Too bad, it looks better with the negative margin.

Could you post a link to the site or something?

A negative (top) margin on the bottom graphic would pull it up on the page, so it could obscure something higher up...but you didn't say the buttons were hidden, just that they didn't work.

Again, the buttons you said aren't working should ONLY appear on the initial cart page. Are they not working on THAT page?

Well but it is a transparent .gif so the buttons were showing through. And yes, it was only on the initial cart page -I couldn't operate the buttons to get past it. If you want to look the link to the test page is

http://shop.laquilacosmetics.com

It's working now, but you can see that if I move the graphic up the transparent part of the .gif would "obscure" the buttons. Possibly I can move it behind instead, or maybe break it into two pieces with a float. I'll try that later when I get to my other machine.

And BTW, since I've got you and you're so kind and helpful, do you know if it's possible to style the invoice/ packing list? My client hates the way it looks in her current ("starter") store. We're using the "manager" version for this one. She wants it to look like Quickbooks , and have her logo etc. on it.

TIA
Megan

OK, so the image was actually on top of the buttons, so they weren't active for clicking. Makes sense.

I'm not sure about the invoice/packing list in the manager version. Sorry.

To add a header or footer to the View Orders and View Packing Slip screens go to Orders -> Configure. To add styles, put the CSS (or the link tag referencing to your external .css file) at the beginning of the Header.

Oh, I also forgot to mention, these Header and Footer fields for the View Orders and View Packing Slip screens are in all ShopSite levels, Starter, Manager, and Pro.

In case you're still interested, I managed to position my graphic(s) where I wanted them by splitting them into two pieces and floating them in a <div>; then gave the entire <div> a negative margin.

I wasn't able to make the z-index work.

Loren, thanks for the info about styling the packing slip etc. You will make my client very happy.
