Creating Search URLs For Google Adwords Ads

Postby extragear » Mon Mar 29, 2010 9:16 am

Hello:

Lets say you are setting up ads for Google Adwords. In this case you are creating ads that target specific products or types of products. For example, you have an ad that would have a landing page for two specific products. Say SKU 123 and ABC.

Is there a way to create a URL that would land you on the search results page for those two SKUs?

I know if we go to our search page and enter HH82336 OR HH82337, a search page is produced containing those two items. But the address bar shows the URL as being:

http://www.cycleluggage.com/cgi-cyclelu ... search.cgi

Of course using that URL, isnt going to produce the desired search results.

Thanks

Tim

i think the assign items feature would help you build dedicated ppc landing pages with the product mix you want.

see:

Thanks for the help. I should have mentioned I'd rather not have to create custom pages for each landing page. This would result in 100's of pages.

I know that some ASP platforms allow you to edit a url so it can search for more than one part number. For example,

/search.asp?p=1&w=&c=43120+411009&t=s

Allows you to search for 43120 and 411009

The search results is a page containing those two part numbers.

Does Shopsite have that ability? If not, I can revert to what you suggested.

Thanks

I use the following to get search results for the 2 products P047B and P045B in my test store. There were about 20 products that matched the bone and MIdlands terms also so it selected for those terms first and then got just the 2 products I specified.

http://mydomain.com/cgi-bin/jim/10sp1/s ... OR%20P045B

The %20 are spaces between the search terms and the AND or OR criteria operators.
This is probably more complicated than you need but I wanted to see if it would work.

I have my search settings set to
Advanced Search == Always
Search Terms are == Auto new search with stems if nothing found
Radio button Stems with both before and after STEM boxes checked
Default Advanced Search Field to == Basic.

I am using development code for ShopSite 10 sp1 r2 but don't know if any thing has been changed with regards to how the search terms are sent to the cart.

Jim

That worked. The one thing I couldn't find though is the setting for:

Radio button Stems with both before and after STEM boxes checked.

Even so, it works.

Thanks

The "Radio button Stems with both before and after STEM boxes checked. " Is found on the Preferences > Search Settings > Search Layout in the Advanced Search section under Search Terms Are:. There are two options
Code: Select all
Whole words ^ Auto new search with stems if nothing found.
# Stems (wild-carded: forces simplified basic mode): ^ *STEM* ^

I put a # to indicate the radio button checked and ^ where there are check boxes that are checked.
