Custom template to modify [-- LINK --]?

Postby Yachtsman » Sat Dec 26, 2009 6:58 pm

Does any have an example of a custom template to modify the output of
[-- LINK --]?

I'm looking for an example of how you define the template and how it is saved.

Thanks

Any of the ShopSite provided page templates will have a section called [-- DEFINE LINK_TO_PAGE --] That defines the [-- LINK --] when that page template is used.

There is also info in the help documentation to show you how.http://www.shopsite.com/templates/examp ... links.html

OK the [-- DEFINE LINK_TO_PAGE --] at the top of a page template is making sense. Thanks

I'm still missing how you define a template to modify the output of
[-- LINK --]. The examples on the help page show a
[-- LINK mytemplatename --] but there is no reference to where and how you define and call the "mytemplatename".

"mytemplatename" Would be a page template (with that name) that contains the [-- DEFINE LINK_TO_PAGE --] section the html and ShopSite tags to format the way you want the link to appear.

I assume the mytemplatename kept in a separate file? Where is it saved? Is it an .sst file?

Yes it is a separate Page template file that you can create by going to Merchandising > Custom Templates > Pages.

You can either create a brand new file or copy one of the ShopSite page template and modify it.

You can call it what ever you want as long as it is the same name that you use in the [-- LINK mytemplate --] The file extension doesn't matter. Note that the name should not include spaces.

Also note that you don't have to use the mytemplate format you can just use [-- LINK --] and it will use the format for the link that is specified in the page template that is currently being called.

Thanks for the info - I'll try it in a couple hours.

The reason for using the "mytemplate" option is I want to display the same links in two different areas of the page and in two different formats.

BTW: is there away to discover links contained on a link page that I'm displaying. Sort of like "sub-links". I'd like to dislay them in a left panel.

Linked page1
Sub-Linked page1
Sub-Linked page2
Linked page2
Sub-Linked page1
Sub-Linked page2
Sub-Linked page3
Sub-Linked page4
Linked page3
Sub-Linked page1
Sub-Linked page2

Thanks again.
